Thanks to my extraordinarily thrifty, salesman-by-day-builder/furniture-maker-by-night father, I grew up being a furniture snob on a budget. Prior to opening my own design business (and getting access to all those lovely wholesale and trade prices), the only way I could afford my snobby champagne taste on my beer budget was to shop Craigslist, auctions, and upscale consignment furniture stores.
I’m still a furniture snob on a budget. I like furniture that lasts — I want my wood furniture to be made of wood, not MDF, and I like my sofa to have spring down cushions and a hardwood, kiln-dried frame with 8-way, hand-tied suspension and mortise and tenon joints. And even with my trade discounts, I still shop upscale furniture consignment.
(“Upscale” is the operative word here. Here in New Hampshire, about 1.25 hours from the Boston Metro area, there are plenty of “vintage” consignment places, but not so many upscale ones.)
So, a few years ago (in 2013 to be exact, and one year after we bought this house), I was thrilled beyond belief with the launch of Viyet, an online designer furniture consignment portal. Some items have some wear and tear, and some are in showroom condition. Prices go down as a product goes unsold, and it has a “final call” area I love. You can also “make an offer,” just like on eBay or Chairish.
If you’re a savvy shopper, you’ve probably found Viyet by now. If not, you’re welcome!
Beyond the usual time-oriented markdowns, Viyet doesn’t usually have sales, per se. But this weekend, it is offering 20% off already marked down items with the code LABORDAY.
You can check out the link for the entire sale (like on 5,000+ items, yikes!) but I’ve chosen some lighting, seating, and casegoods here that I think are *serious* deals, even compared to wholesale, and that are listed under $1,000 to begin with, before the Labor Day discount.
The small pics in my little round up don’t do many of these pieces justice, but I didn’t want to inundate you with bigger pictures! So click to get your closeup if you’re at all curious. Listed prices below. Make an offer and add your Labor Day discount and … Woohoo!
Now for seating. This is where it gets really sick … sick in a good way! Almost all these are showroom samples, and there are a lot of Duralee chairs and ottomans. Duralee, a huge fabric and upholstery house, was recently acquired by Robert Allen, another huge fabric and upholstery house, to make an enormous Robert Allen Duralee Group. I think that Duralee is unloading some things that have only the Duralee brand, but that’s just a guess.
Most of these pieces are in neutral fabrics, so accessorize with pillows or a throw!
Next up, casegoods! I’ve only chosen from those that are in nearly new or showroom condition (excepting vintage).
There’s a ton of art, rugs, and decor items available as well. Have fun, and let me know if you grab anything! Happy Labor Day Weekend!
